IA Capacity Assessment

Independent review of supplier capacity and capability

International Associates Limited provides independent Capacity Assessments for buyers, brands, retailers, manufacturers and organisations that need to understand whether a supplier or production site has the capacity, capability and controls to meet agreed requirements.

The assessment looks at the practical ability of a facility to deliver products or services consistently, safely and reliably. It considers production capacity, management controls, quality systems, machinery and equipment, workforce capability, supplier controls and operational risk.

This is not a certification audit and does not result in the issue of a certificate. The output is a clear assessment report with scoring, risk rating, findings and recommendations.

What is a Capacity Assessment?

A Capacity Assessment is a structured review of a supplier, factory or operational site. It helps determine whether the site has the resources, systems, controls and management capability needed to meet customer, buyer or project expectations.

It is particularly useful before approving a new supplier, placing a significant order, increasing production volume, reviewing a subcontractor, or investigating quality, delivery or operational concerns.

The assessment can also support supplier onboarding, sourcing decisions, buyer due diligence and improvement planning.

Our approach

International Associates uses a practical, evidence-based assessment process. Our assessors review the information provided by the site, compare it with observed operations and sampled records, and identify whether capacity claims are supported by evidence.

The assessment normally includes a review of the site profile, production processes, machinery and equipment, workforce capacity, quality controls, supplier and subcontractor arrangements, traceability, complaint handling, storage, dispatch and business continuity arrangements.

Where relevant, the assessment may also include a baseline review of health, safety, labour, housekeeping, contamination, pest control and product-specific requirements.

Areas covered

The assessment can be adapted to the site, product, sector and client requirements.

Typical areas include:

  • Management system and governance
  • Production capacity, planning and lead time control
  • Machinery, equipment, utilities and maintenance
  • Workforce capacity, competence and training
  • Customer requirements and specifications
  • Supplier, material and subcontractor control
  • Quality control, inspection and product testing
  • Traceability, recall and customer notification
  • Complaint handling and corrective action
  • Packaging, storage, transport and product release
  • Housekeeping, contamination, pest and foreign body controls
  • Health, safety and labour baseline review
  • Business continuity and operational risk
  • Product or industry-specific requirements

Tailored to client requirements

The IA Capacity Assessment can be tailored to specific client, buyer, product or sector requirements. Where required, the assessment can include additional focus areas such as environmental controls, energy and resource use, waste management, chemical management, security, ethical trade, product safety, regulatory requirements or buyer-specific technical criteria.

This allows the assessment to be used either as a general supplier capacity review or as a more targeted assessment linked to a client’s own sourcing, approval, risk management or supplier monitoring programme.

Reporting

Following the assessment, International Associates issues a report summarising the scope, methodology, evidence reviewed, key strengths, concerns, section scores and overall risk rating.

The report is designed to support informed decision-making. It may include photographic evidence, improvement recommendations and corrective action requirements where requested.

The assessment is based on sampling and on the conditions observed at the time of the visit. It does not guarantee future performance and should be considered alongside the client’s own commercial, technical and sourcing requirements.

Why use IA?

International Associates has extensive experience in supplier audits, social compliance, quality management, product assurance, technical review and international assessment programmes.

Our Capacity Assessment brings these areas together into one practical supplier review, helping clients understand not only whether a site has systems in place, but whether it appears capable of delivering the required volume, quality and reliability.

The IA Capacity Assessment is an independent assessment service. It is not an accredited certification.
